The N47 engine started to be used around Feb/March 2007 but the M47 engine continued to be fitted in some cars until Feb 2008. The problem with timing chain failure was solved on N47 engines fitted to cars with a build date after April/May 2010. From April/May 2010 up until April 2011 slight noise issues with timing chain persisted on the N47Quite literally.. sometimes when i start it it will crank right up and start no problem. Then I can literally shut the car off.. go into a store, and come back out and it seems to have a real hard time cranking over. Sometimes in the morning it has a hard time starting, and then other times it cranks over perfectly fine. It has a bizarre problem that my mechanic has yet to resolve. When the outside temperature drops below ~36F, the car will not start. The car cranks and cranks and cranks but fails to start. After repeating the process for 5-6 times the car will intermittently try to start but idle rough and die. If I continue repeating the process 5-10 minutes Wrong oil: Using the wrong engine oil in your BMW can cause various problems. However, the timing chain is one of the major parts that will be affected. It will likely wear out faster if you use the wrong oil. Chain tensioner or guide problems: The chain relies on guides and tensioners to stay in place and work properly. If there is a problem Check rear trailing arm bushes. Check handbrake shoes. Check front wishbone joints and bushes. Check the turbo actuator vacuum pipe that runs from turbo to valve to accumulator then up over the

I drove home from dealership (5 miles) and when I went to start it the next day the coolant light came on. Checked and couldn't even see the float and proceeded to add 3+ cups of coolant/water mix.
