Hi . The camera is waterproof without the protective lens cover. It is easier to remove the lens cover for the HERO9 Black compared to previous models.
Excellent advice. After about 5-10 minutes of first inserting a sheet of paper between the lens cover "louvers" I got brave and used a dental pick as well. The paper alone would not free up the louvers, but using the dental pick and GENTLY prying I was able for free-up the operation of the lense louvers.
